March 25th was the 25th Anniversary from my graduation from Life University – I cannot believe it! I have been doing this “chiropractic thing” for 25 years, that’s a ¼ of a century! Do you remember what you were doing that long ago? My intern Leah put together a short video highlight reel that we’ve posted on the office You Tube page, and it’s also on Instagram and Facebook if you have the chance to watch it. I love to see some of the photos from that long ago, along with the changes we’ve made over the years.
I started out as an associate doctor working for Dr. Jim Hovey in Roswell, then about 20 months later opened up my own office in Kennesaw (in the Publix shopping center right down the street). I was sharing office space with one other doctor, which was a great idea at the time since we split the cost of overhead as we built our businesses. After a few years we went our separate ways, and then a year later I moved into our current space up on the hill. And 11 years later, we changed the office name to Active Life Chiropractic (from Stone Family Chiropractic Center). So many big changes!
I am grateful to all the people who have come through our doors over the years, many of whom are still under chiropractic care and many who have become friends. I’ve seen lives change – I mean really change, whether it’s a healthier lifestyle, avoiding medications, changing their mindset, or whatever it may be, it’s been just amazing. Reading people’s comments on our social media posts is certainly heartwarming, to think of all the people I’ve adjusted and the lives that have changed. These are just a few things that have happened over the past 25 years (not enough space to write them all!):
- No more ear infections
- Getting inspired to live a healthy lifestyle
- Learning about immunity and freedom of choice
- No c-section because the baby went head down
- Able to run long distance again
- Getting pregnant after years of infertility
- Changing careers to become a chiropractor
- No more ADHD medications
- No more high blood pressure medicine
- No more headaches
- And the list goes on…
During those 25 years, I got married and became a mom. I finished an Ironman triathlon plus hundreds of other races. We’ve had three official office dogs. We’ve painted a few times. We’ve added the basketball court to the backyard. We finished out part of the office basement. We’ve added doctors, exam doctors, interns, massage therapists and independent contractors. And now I’m teaching a perinatal class for the ICPA. So many amazing things. I really am truly blessed.
If you have read this far thank you. If you have ever been a patient in the office thank you. If you are a friend, thank you. And if you are part of my future, well then thank you too.
It’s been an amazing ride. And no, retirement is not in sight, I’ve still got more to do, I love helping people and I love my career.
