Do you think I’ve ever jumped out of a perfectly good airplane? Do you think I’ve completed more than100 triathlons? If you’ve read my bio on our website, you’d know the answer to one of those questions. Last week at our office we had COW – chiropractic opportunity week — which was an opportunity for people to tell us what they like about our office, what they don’t like, and answer some questions about chiropractic care. This year we also threw in several questions about each of us, and it was interesting to know what people thought about me (haha!).
In the quiz, people learned that Kim dresses up as a Star Wars character at charity events; they learned that Julia is the youngest of 8 children; that Baley & Eric are both left handed; and that Dr. Shannon did not jump out of an airplane! (But yes, Shannon did work for the CDC, she went to UGA, she ran track & field in high school and she has metal plates & screws in her ankle).
As for me, people had to guess which of five options was false in a multiple-choice question. So than answer is — yes I have done 100 triathlons, finishing my first one in 1986. I went to the University of Vermont and played lacrosse there. As far as I’m concerned, they had to snow-blow our field too many times in order for us to practice, and I didn’t really like the snow or cold, so I transferred to the University of Massachusetts (where it actually was a bit warmer). I played lacrosse for three years (we were ranked nationally in the top 10 all three years!) and after graduating, I spent 8 years working in the sporting goods industry prior to “discovering” chiropractic and changing careers. And a few years after graduating from UMass, I fulfilled a dream and went skydiving over the pioneer valley of western Massachusetts. Yes, I jumped out of a perfectly good airplane.
So the correct answer was letter C – I did not play basketball at UMass (instead I played lacrosse). What I thought was pretty funny was that most people picked the answer about the triathlon, not thinking I could ever do 100 of them. When it came to the option of “she has jumped out of perfectly good airplane” – most people said they guessed that was true (which it is), because they knew I was adventurous like that. So, I guess people know me pretty well. J
I was impressed at how well people did on the quiz – YES we made it open book and we certainly helped people with answers (as long as we could teach them the answer), and it was cool to see how many people really took the time to participate. I love that people know that the nervous system controls all body functions, that only 10% of the nervous system transmits pain (because the rest is about controlling function), and they know what a subluxation is. I just love the people that come to our office and their commitment to better health and healing.
