Bike Accident in New Orleans

Earlier this month while on a bike ride in New Orleans, a car hit two Atlanta tri-athletes; one was killed instantly the other critically injured. It was just two days before they were supposed to race in the 70.3 Half Ironman Race. Frank Guinn & Andrew Powell were brother-in-laws, out for an easy warm-up ride, doing what they loved. It was a horrible tragedy, Frank was an Atlanta fire fighter and left behind a wife & 7-year old triplet daughters. Andrew has undergone several surgeries and remains hospitalized in New Orleans. As the General Manager of Big Peach running store in Kennesaw, he is known and loved by many around here. Andrew will face huge medical bills in the future as he has a long recovery ahead of him. When he comes back to Atlanta he’ll be moved to the Shephard Center and will have a long rehab as he learns how to walk again.
While I didn’t know Frank, I’ve known Andrew for many years on both a business & friendship basis. He’s a great guy and a remarkable athlete. Funds have been set up for both Andrew & Frank and if you feel like donating to either one, here are the links.
