Goodbye September
This has been a bad September. Well, maybe not bad, but just not normal or fun. I’m certainly glad it’s October and hope that this month goes better. Some of my favorite things just did not happen in September and that made it a frustrating month. So, what happened that made this month not a favorite of mine?
First, my two favorite baseball teams were just horrible! The Braves went from having a good shot at making the playoffs, to downright bad team, losing numerous games in the past month dropping them far out of the playoff picture. It’s hard to root for a team when they are on a downward spiral and that was the Braves. Then the Red Sox went from a really bad team to a more than really bad team. Not sure how you can go from winning the World Series to rock bottom place a year later, but that was them. The fun of September baseball was gone, and now there’s no one special to root for in October.
The Patriots went 2-2, as well as the Falcons. It’s just not normal for us Bostonians. I know, we’ve been spoiled the past 10 years or so with winning teams and now anything less makes us think that things are bad. Who knows what will happen with them this year, but 2-2 start is not normal or fun.
And then there is my running, or lack thereof. During the 30 days of September, I ran a total of 4 days. Yikes! I truly think that is the least amount of running I have done in 8 years. The last time I ran that little was after my bad accident in 2006 (2+ months of not running), but this time it has been more voluntary than forced. I rested to let a mysterious foot injury get better and I think it has worked. Today I ran 3 miles pain free, the first time running in 2 weeks. During the month, my running was replaced with pool running, which was fairly fun and different. However, I get much more joy & fulfillment by running on the roads & trails, the pool was just not the same.
So I do hope October brings a new twist to things…hopefully the Patriots will start to play better & hopefully my running will be pain free. This “bad/different” month is now over and I’m looking forward to getting back into running more regularly. While my baseball teams are not in the playoffs, I do hope the Patriots & Falcons start to win more games than they lose. If not, I can look forward to baseball again, after all it’s less than 190 days until Spring Training!
