A Gratitude Journal
Visualization, affirmations, meditation, goal setting – have you ever done these? Years ago I was in a very regular daily morning routine of writing in a goals journal, repeating positive affirmations & visualizing what I wanted. I absolutely think it helped me with not only my individual day, but my life in general. And then I got an 8-week old puppy, and my morning routine was replaced with playing with a puppy. And then I became a mom. And here I am 10 years later and I no longer have that routine yet the lessons I learned from it I still carry with me today.
Recently I have started writing in a gratitude journal every night. I have always been someone who is very grateful for what I have, and I never want to take things for granted. So each night before bed I write down five things I am thankful for. When I started this, I didn’t want to write down the same five things but I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to come up with different things each day. But I was wrong! And it’s been so great! Just think about it — what are YOU thankful for? If it’s your family, can you be more specific? If it’s your health, can you be more specific? I’m only a month into this routine of mine, and I don’t think I’ve had to repeat anything (yes, thankful for 5 new things each day). It doesn’t take that long to do and it has me thinking of positive things and be appreciative as I go to sleep. That’s a great way to end your day.
While this may not be for you, maybe find something else to do that’s similar? Do the gratitude journal in the morning? Write out daily goals or affirmations? Say a daily prayer? Putting your mind in a positive place can be so beneficial.
So where will 2019 take you? If you don’t do any routine like this for yourself, could you add that into your day? Whether it’s visualization, affirmations, writing down goals, writing in a gratitude journal, and/or prayer, there are many ways to get your mind in the right place every day. Find something that works for you & make it part of your day.
Happy New Year!
